Compelling. That’s the word that I think best describes music, with its myriad of definitions and massive umbrella of genres. Over my life, I’ve found that there will always be a few constants: death, taxes, traffic, to name a few. Most constants in life aren’t exactly positive. But music is one of the few constants that I find always adds, not detracts, from our life experiences.

Driving along Highway 1 in southern California, taking in the sea salt breeze and the sun’s high exposure while coasting along the highway, is a magical ride, and one that I can’t picture doing without blasting some loud beach rock or synth-heavy indie from my car speakers.

Or maybe it’s a dreary gray day with the rhythm of raindrops steadily passing the time, with no indication of the sun making an appearance. The overcast sky darkens behind my bedroom window, behind which I’m most likely listening to something soft, something that encapsulates the laid-back, rainy day mood (perhaps some Arlo Parks or A Tribe Called Quest.)

Whatever the situation, whatever the day, I find that music, more than anything, gives me the power to feel. The right genre and artist at the right time accentuates the special moments in our day and provides a soundtrack to our life that makes our experience that much richer — or at least, that’s what it does for me.

I’m by no means an expert, more just a music lover and fan, who hopes to share my experience and perspective for anyone looking for a concert review, music recommendation, or artist feature. Cheers!
